Introduction

Losing an eye to injury, infection or a tumour is one of the hardest things a person faces. A well-made artificial eye (ocular prosthesis), fitted after careful surgery, can match the other eye so closely that most people may never notice.

Dr Sumer Doctor takes care of the entire journey from surgical management of the damaged eye to placement of a well sized implant. And fitting of a custom made artificial eye.

When Does The Eye Require Surgical Removal?

An eye may need to be removed in a few situations:
  • Severe injury – trauma that cannot be repaired

  • A painful blind eye – an eye that has lost all vision and become a source of chronic pain

  • Serious infection that threatens the eye socket

  • Intraocular tumours such as retinoblastoma in children or melanoma in adults, where removal can be life-saving

Patient Stories

A gentleman suffering over a decade

After years of constant pain this gentleman chose to treat the problem. After eye removal surgery a well-tolerated implant was placed, and weeks later a custom prosthesis was fitted. He was freed from pain and walked out with a natural-looking eye and his confidence restored.

An injury that took an eye

A single accident can change everything in a moment. In this young girl an eye damaged beyond repair, it was carefully removed and an implant was placed. Once healing was complete, a prosthesis was crafted to match the other eye – the same colour, the same detail. It is nearly impossible to tell which eye is which.

A challenging patient after multiple surgeries

This man had a poor outcome of artificial eye surgery done elsewhere. After putting his faith in us for a revision surgery, we managed to place a second orbital implant for him. We recreated a custom prosthesis for him which now fits perfectly.
